“Move over little dog, the big old dog is movin’ in”

Since acquiring IVP a couple of years back SICK has pretty much had the world of 3D vision to itself. (I’m disregarding Automation Technology because they haven’t really made an impression in North America.)

But now that Cognex want to chew on that particular bone, (Marilyn Matz of Cognex mentioned in a webcast April 14th, 2008 that they are developing 3D technology,) it looks like the competition is going to heat up. In pure sales terms, SICK is by far the bigger, ($1,025M v. $226M) but it’s Cognex that rules the machine vision world.

Should be an interesting tussle.
