Yes, the pun signifies that we’re talking about sewing, needlework, embroidery and any of those other textile-related tasks performed with needle and thread.
Brother, maker of sewing machines for home use, have incorporated a vision sensor into their latest model. Called “InnovEye” ™, the system is intended to improve needle placement accuracy. Now I don’t sew, but having watched several of the ladies in my family struggle to put the needle just where they want it, I can appreciate that this is a useful innovation.
More importantly though, it signifies how machine vision is moving beyond conventional industrial applications and into the consumer world. As this leads to increased volumes, hardware prices should fall, and even better, job opportunities should increase.
So to all you vision specialists out there; your next job may not be in a manufacturing facility.
