Are you a guru?

When I’ve needed to hire machine vision specialists (sorry folks, not hiring right now,) I’ve read a lot of resumes from people who, in my humble opinion, fall short of “expert.” Unfortunately I know of no way to objectively test the ability of a candidate to solve real world vision problems. However, the “Vision System Proficiency Check” from Keyence might be a good place to start.

Note: you will need to register with Keyence to download the pdf, but it’s free and they won’t bug you.

The 20 question quiz covers lighting, optics, image acquisition and image processing, so it hits all the main points. Some of the questions are also quite tough – for someone of my limited mathematical abilities anyway – I scored 80% which just puts me in the “advanced knowledge” category.

Let me know how you do, and I’ll publish the names of anyone who beats my score.
