Building on the “solar” theme of my last post, Xing-Fei He of Dalsa has an article on the AIA web site discussing the role of machine vision in cutting the cost of solar power. In “Automated Inspection Lowers Solar Cell Costs” (Machinevisiononline, October 14th, 2009,) Xing-Fei describes the manufacturing processes involved in producing these cells, before briefing covering the various camera options.
This is a great primer for anyone interested in getting in to solar panel manufacturing; the camera information is a little sketchy and, surprisingly enough, Dalsa-oriented. But as I mentioned previously, solar is a big new market for machine vision, so take a look and consider the opportunities.
