A use for Twitter?

If you’ve taken a look at Andy Wilson’s video blog you may have watched his wonderful rant “Bitter about Twitter.” Like Andy, I’ve wondered if Twitter has any useful application, and as Sir Michael Caine once said, “I’ve got an idea.”

What if the end-of-line inspection system could put out a tweet to let you know of problems? Imagine for example that one morning the light is out. A simple histogram tool would detect that light levels were too low and the computer would send you, the engineer, or perhaps the whole office, a tweet saying “Machine vision system not running due to low light.”

This is but one example; I’m sure there are many more possibilities. I just don’t know if all the technology pieces are there to make it happen, but I’m sure someone out there has the answer.
