High resolution USB CMOS camera

If you followed my predictions for 2010 you’ll recall my projection of growth in the high-res CMOS camera sector. Well here’s some supporting evidence: San Diego-based Viewbits recently announced their lyeron™ 12 Mp camera which delivers 4096 by 3072 images at 25 fps.

As you might expect, this uses the CameraLink interface, and as the sensor features 6 micron pixels, a C-mount lens is not going to be up to the task. In fact the spec sheet for the camera says it uses a “TFL-II” mount, which is a designation I’m not familiar with.

Viewbits is a division of Computer Modules, Inc and are currently looking for a sales person. No word on whether the job is based in southern California, but if it is they should expect a torrent of applications!
