Machine vision improves road safety

I’ve read a few things about vision systems that detect when a driver is becoming drowsy but until today I’d never seen one in action. It was a bullish analyst report from Proactiveinvestors.co.uk that led me to Seeing Machines, the developers of the Driver Support System (DSS) that detects inattention to the road ahead.

Make sure to watch the video – its convincing demonstration of the value of this kind of technology. I have to wonder how long it will be until governments mandate this kind of device in every vehicle. It could happen sooner rather than later if people don’t stop chatting on their cell phones while driving!

But on the positive side, I like to think that machine vision could be saving lives.
