Well so says Robert Edmund, and as Chairman and CEO of Edmund Optics, he’s in a good position to know.
Edmund was interviewed for Optics.org by Jacqueline Hewett – the full text is on the Optics website – and gave a cautiously optimistic assessment of business prospects for 2010. Interestingly enough, he refuses to buy into all the ballyhoo surrounding the emergent solar industry, seeing it as a “long and slow path.” Instead, Edmund suggests the biggest opportunities are in mainstream inspection automation where, “…the vision system is a cost saver. Specifically, the system could replace people in quality control.”
Now that’s something I agree with. Manufacturing remains a target-rich environment for the machine vision specialist.
