Returning to a familiar thread, the security/surveillance/CCTV industry to slowly learning how to make use of things the machine vision world has been using for years, smart cameras, for example. The latest article on this is “Public eyes get smart,” published on the IET web site January 17th, 2011.
This is a very thorough piece that goes in to some detail about camera technologies and resolutions, but the part that really grabbed my attention was the reference to one of the leading CCTV companies in the UK, Axis Communications. Apparently, “Axis Communications does not use its own video analytics software, but provides an open application programming interface that allows third part developers to create their own.”
Now if that’s not throwing down the gauntlet to all you software entrepreneurs out there I don’t what is!
