A rep for one of the big camera companies called on me last week, but to avoid any embarrassment I shan’t tell you either his name or that of his company. I was very interested in a new model they’d unveiled at Vision2007 and this was my first chance to see it. I gave the guy a few minutes to set up his demo in our conference room and then wandered in with coffee for him and me.
The poor chap looked very uncomfortable. “I don’t seem able to connect,” he apologized. So for the next fifteen minutes I looked at a blank screen and a dead camera while he prattled on about what a marvelous product it was.
The moral of the story: If you want to impress me with your latest “must have” gizmo, make sure you know how to use it. If the salesman can’t make it work what chance do I have?
