…in machine vision innovation? Seriously. There seems to be a never-ending stream of German start-up companies with clever ideas for solving inspection tasks. Check out Vialux (www.vialux.de) and PMD Technologies (www.pmdtec.com) as a couple of examples. I’m not criticizing, I’m just curious as to why. Is there something in their research infrastructure (I’m thinking Fraunhofer) that leads to a string of new business ideas, or is it more deep seated than that?
Let me know what you think.

I'm not a German but I know Germany has a long tradition in optics and photography. Carl Zeiss is an example (I think). I suspect their education, especially in Physics, stresses optics and photonics. But I'd like to hear from anyone in Germany on this point.
