Omron – another sleeping giant?

One of the interesting aspects of maintaining a blog is seeing how people find your site. I’m getting a lot of visitors who have searched Google for Omron vision systems, so I thought I’d do the public-spirited thing and post a few comments on Omron.

Frankly, they’re a little like Siemens in that Omron is a huge company that really doesn’t seem to promote its machine vision product line. Yet if you check them out (
link) you’ll see they have quite a range.

I’d say their market position is very similar to that of
Keyence. Like Keyence, Omron sell a range of packaged industrial inspection products suited for routine presence/absence type applications. I wouldn’t ask an Omron system to perform a complex surface flaw detection task, but if you need some straightforward gauging or to detect mixed parts or check on part orientation, then this might be a product to consider.
