Conventional wisdom says always use LED lighting. Now I’m a fan of LEDs because they do offer a relatively stable output over time. But I’m not convinced by the claims of lifetimes of 60,000 hours and up. This just doesn’t match with my experience.
Well it seems the Phillips Lumiled people have come to the same conclusion. This article, in the April 10, 2008 issue of Machine Design, gives details.
Don’t give up on fluorescent just yet!
