Encouraging words

From Sensors Mag comes a Frost & Sullivan press release discussing the propsects for image sensors. While avoiding the CCD vs CMOS debate, (you probably need to buy the report for that,) they project strong growth, especially in areas such as in-car driver assist systems. Interestingly, one of the technological issues the address is the need to increase pixel sensitivity - makes sense if you need your collision avoidance system to work at dusk AND in sunlit snow.

I'm no physicist but it seems to me the challenge in creating pixels that are smaller yet more light-sensitive is in reducing the effect of noise. Perhaps each in-car camera will need it's own cooling system!
