Guidance on machine vision illumination

Everyone in the machine vision world tells you that lighting is 80% of a vision application, but they seldom provide any more help than that. Well today I’d like to share a link to a site that provides some good basic advice on how to determine what lighting technique you should or could be using.

The company is
NERlite, which has actually been a division of the German electronics giant Siemens for a couple of years, although that doesn’t seem to have changed the way they operate. They have a nice lighting selector, which includes some good examples to illustrate the effect of various lighting methods, (back light, darkfield, and so on.) If you need some direction on choosing a lighting method this is definitely a place to go.
