Firewire camera selection

I knew the marketplace for Firewire cameras was pretty crowded, but I had no idea just how many vendors are jostling for your attention.

According to Andy Wilson, editor at Vision Systems Design mag, occasional commentor in these pages, and blogger extraordinaire, more than 80 companies are pushing over 1000 different products under your nose.

So how do you choose the right one?

In his article “Word on the Wire,” published in the September issue of VSD, Andy offers some tips on what differentiates the various models of Firewire camera, (hint; sensor size, format and resolution are important,) and gives a link to the website of one Damien Douxchamps. Damien appears to have both time on his hands and a selfless desire to help his fellow man, because he has catalogued every Firewire camera on the market.

Now I’m not going to cut Andy out of the loop, so you’ll have to read his article to get the link, but trust me, it’s worthwhile.
