Seeing beyond the visible

We humans can only see in a narrow range of the electromagnetic spectrum, so we tend to forget there’s a whole world out their in ultraviolet and infrared. (The exception being the SciFi fans who love the Predator movies.) But as hot objects emit IR, this part of the spectrum offers a lot of potential for monitoring and controlling industrial processes. The complication is that CCD sensors can’t go far into the IR range.

Our old friend Andy Wilson has written an interesting article on the use of
IR in industrial automation. Use the link and consider the possibilities in your plant.
