Intellectual property is very important, and Cognex consistently strive to protect their investment in R&D, as of course is their right. But that said, judging by the report in “ITC 337 Law Blog,” this time they’ve really come out swinging.
I’m not a lawyer, but if I’ve understood this correctly, Cognex have filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission alleging that seven companies are importing products utilizing Cognex innovations. Now some of these are small companies, but the list also includes Omron and Fuji. These are serious players in the machine vision world and they have the resources to fight Cognex in court. Presumable Cognex are pretty sure of their case but it’s going to be interesting to see what happens.
On a related point; I never heard what happened in the Cognex v. MVTec patent infringement lawsuit that started last year. Can anyone offer an update?
