Resolution up, price down

Allied Vision Technology, or AVT for short, are very eager to retain their position as a leader in the Firewire camera market, and a growing force in gigabit ethernet. To this end, they are teasing me, perhaps you too, with press releases about their new Manta GigE camera. Apparently this is a paradigm-changing product that sets an exceptional price-performance benchmark.

Unfortunately there’s nothing about the Manta on the AVT web site, so I guess I’ll just have to go to Vision 2009 in Stuttgart at the beginning of November to learn more.
AVT also say they have higher resolution versions of the Pike coming soon: 11 and 16 megapixel. That sounds interesting but I wonder if they can still use a C-mount lens with those sensors? I checked the web site, but again, no information.

I’ve said this before but I guess it bears repeating: please don’t tell me about products I can’t buy yet. All you’ll do is encourage me to defer my purchasing decision, and I doubt that’s what you want.

At least 16mpix camera from Imperx is F-mount only. I would be surprised if there's ever C-mount 16mpix camera.
