Four weeks ago I speculated that Basler might want to get out of their “Solutions” business , and today I read that they’ve taken the first steps to doing just that. Canada-based Xiris are picking up the Optical Media business in a transaction Basler describe as “bittersweet.”
I’m not familiar with Xiris but a quick scan of their web site suggests this is a rational acquisition on their part, helping them develop their CD/DVD inspection capability. It also has to make sense for Basler, allowing more concentration on their core camera business. Neither party is commenting on the price paid though
