Hot on the heels of the asparagus grader comes the strawberry plant sorter. I picked up this machine vision application on the redesigned and relaunched Vision Systems Design site, now known as Optoiq. It covers work being done at the National Robotics Research Center (NREC), run by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburg.
If you go to the NREC website there’s a little more information about their project. There’s also a video (sadly lacking in commentary,) which presents a kind of “before and after” view of the process.
Further proof, if any were needed, that agriculture could be a huge market for machine vision.
