Machine vision application library

Trailblazing is fraught with risk. Life is tough for a pioneer and much easier for those who follow, so why be the first to solve a problem? The wise engineer tries to learn from those who have gone before, which is one reason I like to read case studies and watch application movies; it’s a great way of seeing how other people solve problems.

Several machine vision companies share this kind of material on their websites. One I’ve been looking at recently is PPT. Under the “Solutions” tab they have a quite lengthy list of application notes and movies.

Viewing the movies does mean downloading and installing the WebEx viewer, but PPT have put a link right on the page, so it’s easy enough to do. The video quality is pretty good, although you’re just watching the PPT Impact software at work rather than seeing the whole system. The voiceover has a “Stephen Hawking” quality to it, but perhaps that just adds to the geeky charm of the production.

The application notes themselves are a little short on detail – a consequence of making them one page sheets – but I guess you could call PPT if you wanted to know more. (Maybe that’s the idea?)
