The (machine vision) future is not industrial

That’s the word, according to the organizers of VISION 2010 and as reported on the OptoIQ web site (April 28th, 2010.)

This reinforces something I’ve been saying for a while: providers of machine vision hardware, software and “solutions” need to look beyond industrial applications for market growth. Agriculture is one area where I keep highlighting intriguing applications but others are automotive, leisure, and clearly also security-related. In fact these all seem to have more potential than the industrial market simply because of the huge opportunity to replicate solutions.

In fact the really great things about these areas is that they all offer the potential of developing standard products, which in turn drives costs down and profits up. So what are you waiting for?
