Behind Teledyne’s acquisition of Dalsa

If, like me, you are curious about just why Teledyne bought camera-maker Dalsa, then you’ll want to read “Teledyne re groups, [sic] sUAS sensors part of their future” (sUAS News, January 21st, 2011.)

This article seems to offer Teledyne’s perspective on the deal. Apparently a big part of the rationale is that Teledyne see a coming drop in defense spending (their main market,) and see Dalsa as helping them broaden into other surveillance and imaging markets. It’s also suggested, much as I thought, that Teledyne might want to inject their IR technology into Dalsa, perhaps establishing them as a rival to IR giant, Flir.

I can’t speak to the accuracy of the information in the article, but it does have the smell of plausibility.
