Machine vision for parking

Who hasn’t left their car in some huge car park and been unable to find it? Come on, we’ve all done it at some point. But providing you can remember your license plate number, machine vision technology from Park Assist of London, Sydney and New York, that need never happen again.

As discussed in the LA Times January 23rd, (”
Servant or snoop in the parking garage?”) Park Assist use high resolution cameras couples with license plate recognition systems, to keep track of which car is in which space. To find your car all you do is enter in the license plate at a “Find-Your-Car” kiosk and the system will tell you where you left it.

That’s great if you’re one of those people who retains things like license plate numbers, but I have trouble just remembering which car I actually drove to the mall. I wonder if it has a “Show me where all the silver Accords with a Grand Valley High School Swim Team bumper sticker are parked” option?
