Building
on my last post, “Intelligently
designed camera mounting system”, I was very interested in a
presentation from Point
Grey
on their new Blackfly camera. It’s a cool camera and all that, but
the part that made me sit up was when the unnamed presenter talked
about how the 29mm form factor is becoming a de facto standard for
machine vision cameras.
A
quick checks shows that he’s right. And it’s not just the size of
the box but the mounting holes and the GPIO Hirose connector.
This
is all brilliant news. It means we can design a single mounting
system that works with all these small cameras, and save both money
and aggravation. One less problem to deal with.
And
where was the AIA while this was happening?
