A few days back I mentioned a company called Axtel who have a vision product built on the Python language. Well I’d said how Axtel were the second company I’d heard of who are using Python, so it seems only right that I should mention the first. And that’s Tordivel, who are out of Norway.
There’s a lot to like about their Scorpion Vision product. It’s hardware-independent and looks to have all the functions you could ever want, and maybe even a few extra. I’m especially intrigued by their 3D module, whose presence implies that Tordivel, (in common with several other companies,) foresee a growing demand for 3D vision. And perhaps best of all, Scorpion is available in modular form, so you just buy what you need. (Buy it in kit form, some assembly required. Does this make Tordivel the IKEA of machine vision?)
But of course, all this great stuff doesn’t come cheap. Oh no. I am impressed by the way in which both Tordivel and Axtel publish pricing on their websites. That kind of openness is good for our industry. But if you want the fully loaded Scorpion you’d better brace yourself for some serious sticker shock.
