Pricing transparency

Those of you who read 'Comments' will have seen a note from 'linescanner,' (great nick - makes us all sound like extras in 'Top Gun,') complaining that while NI publish prices on their website, others, such as a Matrox, do not provide such information.

I agree that as a purchaser it makes my life easier if prices are easy to obtain. I can see though, from a vendor's viewpoint, that there is an advantage in having a potential customer engage in a dialogue. Not only does this give the vendor an opportunity to guide the buyer in their selection of hardware/software, but it's a chance to start building a relationship.

However, as I am a buyer rather than a seller, I'd like to see prices published.

Any other views on this?
