VGR (Vision Guided Robotics) is more complex than most users of machine vision want to get, but at the same time, it’s an area of technology that seems to be finally moving from the university to the plant floor. So anyone interested in understanding the hows and whys of giving a robot eyes would do well to attend the VGR conference near Detroit September 30 – October 2nd.
It’s not for the vision novice, but at the same time, costs are coming down, and more importantly, there’s a growing body of knowledge about how to actually make VGR work in an industrial setting. Companies like Shafi are the trailblazers; take a look at their website to see what they’re doing.

it it great that there are conferences in this area. I believe that the first mass use of vision guided robotics may be in cars for aiding the human drivers.
