No, not peace, love and understanding, though that would be nice, but donning my machine vision hat, let me list what I’d like to find in my stocking this year.
If I could have one really useful software tool, it would be something that could identify differences in textures. I’d really like the ability to detect machining lines that aren’t quite right, or perhaps run in the wrong direction. If I could have a tool like this I’d also want to use it on textiles, so I could verify that a fabric has been woven correctly.
I’d also really like an intelligent light; one that would maintain a constant lumen output over its entire life. Now wouldn’t that be useful?
But most of all, what I really, really want for Christmas is a 5 megapixel “smart camera” that can run at 11 frames per second. I don’t want to be greedy, so I’ll settle for a monochrome CMOS sensor. In fact Vision Components have just announced the very thing, the VC4012nano (see picture.) This is so new that it’s not on their web site, although you can read specs for the board level VCSBC4012.
Thank you so much for reading, and have a very Happy Holiday.

Scorpion has texture detection tools, I'm not sure how they match your requirements.
ps. Technically color and bw are pretty similar, at least NET has same price for color and bw (CCD).
