Microscan – a viable DVT alternative?

The major gripe DVT fans have with Cognex is the end of their ability to write scripts. Well while browsing the Microscan web site, I spotted these bullet points in the description of their Visionscape® software:

  • Scripting language for additional custom tool development
  • ActiveX control-based software component architecture for custom application-specific GUI development

So could Microscan be an alternative product to consider? Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hi;
You know that Microscan product has a long history (evolved from Itran/Automatix ('80s) to Acuity ('90s) to RVSI ('00s) to Siemens then Microscan ('09)). VisionScape is a very viable platform and software library. I don't know if it would be attractive to the DVT fans, but a bigger question is whether anyone should be a DVT fan. A lot of these other, and in certain aspects better, machine vision platforms have been out there for a long time. It's good that people are starting to see the real depth of excellent product availability in the machine vision market.

The Matrox Iris GT with its Matrox Design Assistant flowchart-based integrated development environment is also worth strong consideration. Within Matrox Design Assistant, users can interactively build expressions that utilize results from flowchart steps (i.e., tools) and variables in order to perform calculations, format and analyze results, and manage the flow through a flowchart, flowchart step execution and the user interface. Matrox Design Assistant also supports the creation of custom flowchart steps altogether.
